Learn From Others Mistakes
Building a PC is straightforward, but common mistakes happen even to experienced builders.
1. Not Checking Compatibility
Always verify CPU, motherboard, and RAM compatibility. Use PCPartPicker to catch issues automatically.
2. Forgetting the I/O Shield
The I/O shield goes in the case BEFORE the motherboard. Forget it and you will disassemble everything.
3. Not Updating BIOS
Newer CPUs on older chipsets may need a BIOS update first. Many boards support BIOS flashback without a CPU.
4. Poor Cable Management
Bad cable management restricts airflow and makes upgrades harder. Route cables behind the motherboard tray.
5. Too Much Thermal Paste
A pea-sized dot is all you need. Too much hurts thermal performance.
6. Missing CPU Power Cable
The 8-pin EPS cable near the top of the motherboard is easy to forget. Without it, no boot.
7. Ignoring Airflow
Cool air enters front/bottom, hot air exits top/rear. Slightly positive pressure reduces dust.
8. Cheap Power Supply
A bad PSU can damage components. Stick to reputable brands, 80+ Gold minimum.
9. Not Grounding Yourself
Static kills components. Touch the case metal before handling parts.
10. Rushing
Take your time. A careful build takes 2-3 hours. Rushing leads to bent pins and frustration.
